Urgent Care—A Solution for Common Illnesses and Injuries

If you or someone you know experiences a heart attack, serious injury or a critical condition, call 9-1-1 immediately or go to the closest hospital emergency room. When you or your children have a common complaint—sore throat, flu, fever, earache, minor cuts, sprains or strains—head to your nearest Baptist Medical Plaza or Baptist Health Urgent Care center. Here, you’ll find physicians and nurses ready to deliver top-quality, patient-centered care. Appointments are not required; patients are prioritized based on their medical condition.

Physician Referral Service
If you don’t already have a primary care physician, please call the Baptist Health Physician Referral Service at 786-596-6557, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Outside of Miami-Dade County, please call 800-228-6557. Or, you can use our online physician referral service at baptisthealth.net.

Convenient On-site Prescription Service
If our physician writes a prescription for you after your exam, you can often get it filled before leaving our Urgent Care Center. We provide limited pharmacy services for our patients, often saving them a trip to the neighborhood drug store. You can ask us to:

  • Fill your medication prescription
  • Fax the prescription to your preferred pharmacy
  • Give you the prescription so you may fill it at a time that is convenient for you

Call 9-1-1 for Emergency Care

If you or someone you know has a serious injury, heart attack or other life-threatening condition, call 9-1-1 immediately or go to your closest hospital emergency room. For simpler issues, such as flu, fever, earache, minor cuts and bumps, head to a Baptist Medical Plaza or Baptist Health Urgent Care location near you.

Urgent Care

Count on us for high quality, compassionate care that gets you on the road to recovery.
Registration

Count on us for a quick and easy registration process. After greeting you, our representative will request your essential information. You will need to provide your address, phone number, an emergency contact person, place of employment, regular physician if you have one and health insurance information. If you have been a Baptist Health South Florida patient before, we will request that you confirm the accuracy of the medical records we have on file for you. You must also sign a consent form in order to receive medical treatment for yourself or your child.

Evaluating Your Condition

After registration, our triage nurse will review your vital signs, symptoms, medical condition and medical background. This process helps us prioritize care—wait times are based on the severity of each patient’s condition. Our primary goal is to deliver efficient, effective and compassionate care that gets you back on your feet as quickly as possible. If, during your wait, your condition gets worse, please inform us right away.

Your Treatment

The next step is meeting our attending physician who will perform an examination in one of our treatment rooms. Depending on your medical needs, the physician may request laboratory and/or diagnostic imaging tests. You may rest in the treatment room while waiting for your test results. You may have one visitor at a time with you while you wait. For their comfort and yours, we request that additional relatives or friends remain in the waiting area. Both parents are welcome to stay in the treatment room if their child is a patient.

Ensuring Good Outcomes

Before leaving the urgent care center, we will provide you with discharge instructions. Please follow these directions carefully. Feel free to ask us about anything you don’t understand. Our staff is always willing to discuss your questions or concerns. If you need a follow-up appointment, please schedule this before you leave. In some cases, our Quality Assurance nurse may follow-up with you by phone, so please provide us with a phone number where we can reach you. If you have questions concerning your care or discharge instructions, please call our Quality Assurance Department at 954-837-1009. The department is open every day, from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
